Learn and Travel offers you the possibility to practice your spanish skills adquired in your spanish classes, with the ecuadorian peoples. Therefore, we offers you, two destinies: Otavalo and Cotopaxi National Park.
First of all, we will visite Otavalo that is located, just 2 hours North of Quito, in the Imbabura province, surrounded by volcanoes, rivers and lakes; consequently, is knowled like the «Province of the lakes»
The “Otavaleños”, the inhabitants of the area, are proud of their cultural heritage and they have been very successful in the development of handicrafts, consequently the urban development of the city grow up too. Their weekly market it is very famous because has an enormous variety of handicrafts, including: tapestries, hammocks, jewelry, paintings and colorful native clothing. The market is beautiful, but most of all you love is the style of sell, in wich you could offers price with the sellers taking deals and practicing your language skills. In addition we will cross the Equatorial line and visit the Quitsato solar clock.
Also, after lunch, we will visit the village of Cotacachi, known for its leather products and landscape, furtheremore the Cuicocha lagoon, a beautiful crater lake. Finally we will return to Quito.
Another place much as beautiful like Otavalo is the Cotopaxi Volcano, famous due to is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world, standing at 5897 masl. Furthermore, here we will be able to see animals such as llamas, deer, and if you’re really lucky, an Andean Condor! Also we’ll travel up a dirt road ‘til the Andean glacier lake called “Limpiopungo”, located at 3800masl, at the base of the Cotopaxi volcano itself.
Finally, if the weather conditions allow, we will drive to the parking lot located at 4500masl so we can walk 300m uphill to the refuge, giving us a once-in-a-lifetime view of the entire Southern Andean region.
First, Learn and Travel, takes you to the Quilotoa crater that is located in the Cotopaxi province, at 3814masl and is a part of the Ilinizas Ecological Reserve. With a car we will arrive at the top of the crater, because is the best place to see a beautiful emerald Green lake inside. Also, during the trip we will enjoy a picturesque landscape, seeing small indigenous villages in their agricultural communities. The temperature inside the crater is actually warmer than on the outside. Furthermore, we’ll have a walk descending to the shore of the lake, which will take about 1 hour; the walk back up will take approximately 90 to 120 minutes to the crater’s edge, about 280m. To avoid the hike back up, you can always hire mules or horses. Finally we will return to Quito.
For the second day, Learn and Travel takes you to amazing place, about 2 hours from Quito, called Mindo, with some extraordinary flora. There is a huge variety of birds, also more than 170 species of orchids have been discovered, Mindo is famous, due to this, furthermore it’s a perfect place to do adventure sports, horseback riding, mountain biking, tubing, or rafting. Here the student will enjoy the landscape, visiting the butterfly reserve, orchid garden and a chocolate Factory. The sports activities aren’t included in the visit.
